PM SOLIDS PUMPS FOR MINE BACKFILLING AND TAILINGS DISPOSAL

Pumping slurry to the surface, backfilling and tailings disposal of paste as well as pumping of concrete or mortar in mines are the main uses for these pumps.

High production costs, safety considerations, environmental aspects, etc. are forcing mine operators to undertake extensive restructuring. The backfilling station plays an important role here. At the heart of installations of this kind are Putzmeister double piston pumps and ZX pipework systems from Putzmeister. Amongst the challenging technical requirements are:

• Conveying over distances of up to 11 km from the mixing facility on the surface to the backfill location with no pumps installed on this route
• Conveying capacities of up to 500 m³/h with one Putzmeister pump
• Operating pressures in the material of up to 120 bar
• Suitability for very abrasive material

The advantages of this process include improved stability for the mine, better mineral exploitation, safe and clean transportation in the pipes, low energy and water consumption and low wear costs due to very few switch overs in the valves.

MINE DEWATERING

Mine slurries laden with sand and other solids must be conveyed up to the surface at high pressures. The Putzmeister HSP seat valve pump offers a particular efficient and inexpensive solution to this task.

With conveying pressures of up to 120 bar only one pump is normally needed to convey abrasive slurries from the bottom of the mine to the surface. Outputs of up to 200 m³/h per pump are often achieved.

With the Putzmeister HSP pump you will have the following results:

• Few switchovers of the seat valves guarantee low wear
• The concentration of the solids in the slurry remains constant
• Low energy requirements

The reliable technology increases availability and considerably reduces maintenance costs.

SHOTCRETING TECHNOLOGY

Wet shotcreting is a recognised and successful method in tunnelling and mining. Being a pioneer in the spraying of plaster, mortar and concrete, Putzmeister can offer complete customer specific systems and accessories for underground use.

The advantages of the wet-shotcrete method:

• High performance - more than 10 m³ shotcrete/h
• Reduces shotcrete in time by 50%
• Low rebound
• Lower compressed air consumption
• Uniform concrete due to homogeneous distribution
• Better working environment, less dust
• Lower wear costs than with dry-shotcreting

PACKING AND INJECTION

The manual construction of rockfill dams prevents water infiltration and considerably reduces the cost of maintaining the gallery. Control of the point where face and gallery meet is improved and a higher speed of mining achieved.

In hydro-mechanical backfilling technology, concrete mixed with water to a pumpable consistency is placed by the machine.

This method achieves a high quality of placement and a high level of backfilling placed (80-100%). It has advantages from the point of view of rock mechanics and processing technicians and is therefore the most widely used. For this kind of work we recommend our concrete pumps with S-transfer tube.
