West River can supply any type of starter to suit your needs. Its starters are enclosed in metal and are suitable for underground mine-duty use. The three most common types available are:

• Across-the-line
• Soft start
• Variable frequency drive (VFD)

The VFD starter controls the frequency of the electrical power supplied to a motor to increase speed, manoeuvrability and responsiveness. This type of starter is widely used because it initially applies a low frequency to start the motor, avoiding the high current that occurs by turning on a switch. Using a VFD starter increases the longevity of the drive while achieving additional energy and cost savings.
