In addition to the A220 platform, Icom America has announced a technical standard order (TSO) certified A220 VHF air band radio. This radio for the avionics market features enhanced squelch control, a bright white display and easy installation.
The TSO is a performance standard for specified materials, parts and devices used on civil aircrafts, issued by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). TSO-approved equipment is deemed safe and beneficial, and is allotted to set standards for equipment installed in aircrafts. Icom’s A220 radio is TSO-certified for a part 23 aircraft, a general aviation aircraft (single, light twins and some turboprop crafts) with a maximum take-off weight of less than 12,500lb. Additional information regarding part 23 aircrafts is available on the FAA website.
Icom’s A220 air band radio has a large, bright organic light emitting diode (OLED) display with white key backlighting. An auto-dimmer function adjusts the OLED’s brightness for ideal daytime or nighttime operation. The A220 also features one-action squelch operation and automatic / manual squelch control. Additionally, the A220 features an available D-SUB 25 connector in its back panel. This industry standard connection promotes flexible and easy installation.
