Many of South African plants contain outdated equipment, which can be revitalised at minimal cost. Better throughputs and higher efficiency can be achieved with newer technology. This arrangement has proved very successful at a Phosphate mine in South Africa.
The modernisations of the thickeners have resulted in much higher and consistent underflow densities. Subsequent downstream process efficiencies such as filtration benefits immensely. The added benefit is the substantial saving of water, which is a scarce commodity.
