Critical Metals (CRML) has gained approval from the Greenland Government to acquire the remaining 50.5% interest in Tanbreez Mining Greenland, increasing its ownership to 92.5%.
This transfer solidifies the company's control over one of the world's largest rare earth deposits.
European Lithium (EUR) continues to hold a 7.5% interest in Tanbreez and 37.5% in CRML.
The development allows CRML, along with EUR, to assume full operational control of the Tanbreez project.
Located in southern Greenland, Tanbreez contains all eight essential heavy rare earth elements (HREEs) crucial for defence, clean energy and advanced technologies.
The site benefits from year-round shipping access to the North Atlantic via deep-water fjords, providing a logistical edge over other projects.
The recent government approval eliminates a key obstacle to development, significantly reducing risks for CRML’s production plans.
CRML has recently undertaken initiatives to further the project's development.
These include a metallurgical breakthrough in March 2026 that improved concentrate grades and the majority acquisition of 60° North Greenland to bolster local operations.
The company has also expanded its advisory board and initiated a $30m programme aimed at accelerating drilling and infrastructure activities.
A letter of intent worth $120m from EXIM Bank has been secured to support these developments.
Pilot plant operations are expected to begin in May 2026.
Securing supply chains for Western-aligned critical minerals is increasingly urgent, with HREEs like dysprosium and terbium being essential for various technologies.
The Greenland Government's approval of CRML’s near-total ownership of Tanbreez strengthens its position as a key HREE developer.
The company currently plans to focus on advancing Tanbreez through drilling, pilot operations and updated economic assessments.

Securing 92.5% ownership of Tanbreez – with the full support and approval of the Greenlandic Government – removes the most significant structural overhang on the project and provides the clarity to advance Tanbreez to production with confidence.
