Sandvik’s order comprises 14 Toro LH621i loaders, ten Toro TH663i trucks, and one Sandvik DD422i development jumbo.

The machinery will be operated and maintained by Northern Star Mining Services (NSMS), an in-house division wholly owned by Northern Star Resources.

Northern Star Resources operates a portfolio of open pit and underground gold mines, including sites in Kalgoorlie and Yandal in Western Australia, along with the Pogo mine in Alaska, US.

According to Sandvik, the Toro TH663i trucks and Toro LH621i loaders are designed for underground environments and include features such as automation readiness, real-time analytics, advanced connectivity, and focus on maintainability.

Sandvik states that these capabilities are aimed at delivering higher payloads, reducing operating costs per tonne, and improving site safety.

Sandvik Mining sales area Australia and New Zealand vice-president Craig Johnston said: “Keeping underground production moving depends on both equipment performance and the support behind it.

“Our local teams will continue working closely with Northern Star throughout equipment delivery, commissioning and ongoing lifecycle management.”

In August 2026, Sandvik obtained an order worth around $29m (Skr275m) from Kamoa Copper for the delivery of 19 Toro trucks and loaders to the Kamoa-Kakula Copper Complex in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

The copper mine is managed through a joint venture partnership, with Ivanhoe Mines and Zijin Mining Group each holding 39.6%, Crystal River Global owning 0.8%, and the remaining 20% held by the Government of the DRC.
