Australia’s Cavalier Resources has initiated the mining approval process for its Crawford Gold Project after completing the pre-feasibility study (PFS).
Talis Consultants has been appointed to oversee the approval process, marking a significant milestone towards the commencement of mining activities.
The initial phase involves Talis Consultants conducting an independent review of the project schedule and proposed strategy.
This review will include a GAP analysis, an assessment of baseline data and a thorough examination of the requirements under the Western Australia Mining and Environmental Protection Acts.
The outcome will inform the scheduling of an approvals strategy, leading to the receipt of necessary permits and the submission of reports.
Initiation of these works signifies the approach to the final regulatory hurdles before the application for mining activity approval can be submitted.

By GlobalDataCavalier Resources anticipates completing the necessary approval reports for submission by the third quarter of 2024.
In parallel with the approval process, Cavalier Resources is exploring the potential for early-stage mining through a trial pit.
The move is expected to expedite cash flow and facilitate heap leach field test work.
With these initiatives, Cavalier Resources aims to establish the Crawford Gold Project as a new gold mining hub, positioning itself as a self-funded explorer.
This will enable further development of its mature gold assets in the vicinity of Leonora and the Ella’s Rock greenfield lithium project, situated on the globally recognised Forrestania lithium belt.
Cavalier Resources executive technical director Daniel Tuffin said: “Having recently completed the PFS, the company has now commenced the mining approvals process, a transformative period signifying the final step towards realising open-pit mining at the Crawford Gold Project.
“The company has engaged the environmental expertise of Talis Consultants to guide us through this critical approvals phase. The recent Crawford PFS proved the viability of mining and onsite processing at Crawford, located just 20km east of Leonora.
“The company is currently evaluating the prospects of a trial pit at the Crawford Gold Project with a view to potential early-stage gold production. This initiative could accelerate cash flow generation and offer valuable operational insights for the efficient advancement of the project and the creation of shareholder value.”
