Ten biggest producing surface and underground mines in Asia-Pacific in 2020

Here are the ten largest surface and underground mining projects by production in Asia-Pacific in 2020, according to GlobalData’s mining database.

1. Northern Shaanxi Mine

The Northern Shaanxi Mine is a coal mining project in Shaanxi, China. The greenfield project is owned by Shaanxi Coal and Chemical Industry Group. The mine produced an estimated 47.101Mt of ROM in 2020. It had an estimated production of 35.797 mtpa of coal in 2020.

2. Zijinshan Gold & Copper Mine

The Zijinshan Gold & Copper Mine is a gold mine owned by Zijin Mining Group. Located in Fujian, China, the brownfield mine produced approximately 29.429Mt of ROM in 2020. It had an estimated production of 82.403 thousand ounces of gold in 2020.

3. Xieqiao Mine

Located in Anhui, China, the Xieqiao Mine is a coal mining project owned by Huainan Mining Group. The mine is expected to operate until 2043.

The greenfield mine produced an estimated 10.33Mt of ROM in 2020. It had an estimated production of 7.024 mtpa of coal in the same year.

4. Tongchuan Mine

Owned by Aowei Holding, the Shuanmazhuang Mine is an iron ore mine situated in Hebei, China. The mine is expected to operate until 2042.

6. Amelia Coal Block Mine

7. Ekou Mine

The Ekou Mine is an iron ore mine owned by Taiyuan Iron & Steel (Group). Located in Shanxi, China, the brownfield mine produced approximately 6.518Mt of ROM in 2020. It had an estimated production of 4.302 mtpa of iron ore in 2020. The expected mine closure date is 2049.

8. Yellandu Coal Mine

Located in Telangana, India, the Yellandu Coal Mine is a coal mining project owned by Singareni Collieries. The mine is expected to operate until 2033.

The greenfield mine produced an estimated 4.49Mt of ROM in 2020. It had an estimated production of 3.413 mtpa of coal in the same year.

9. Wang’ergou Mine

The Wang’ergou Mine is an iron ore mine located in Hebei, China. Owned by Aowei Holding, the greenfield project produced an estimated 4.202Mt of ROM in 2020.

The mine had an estimated production of 2.773 mtpa of iron ore in 2020. The Wang’ergou Mine will operate until 2042.

10. Jiama Mine

Owned by China Gold International Resources, the Jiama Mine is a copper mine situated in Tibet, China. The mine is expected to operate until 2050.

The ROM production at the mine produced was approximately 4.102Mt of ROM in 2020. It had an estimated production of 74.576 thousand tonnes of copper in 2020.
