Five largest iron ore mines in Canada in 2020

Here are the five largest iron ore mines by production in Canada, according to GlobalData’s mining database.

1. Mont Wright Mine

The Mont Wright Mine is a surface mine located in Quebec. It is owned by ArcelorMittal and produced an estimated 23.2 MTPA of iron ore in 2020. The mine will operate until 2052.

2. Carol Lake Mine

Located in Newfoundland and Labrador, the Carol Lake Mine is owned by Rio Tinto. The surface mine produced an estimated 17.715 MTPA of iron ore in 2020. The mine will operate until 2081.

3. Bloom Lake Mine

The Bloom Lake Mine is located in Quebec. It is owned by Champion Iron and produced an estimated 8.001 MTPA of iron ore in 2020.

4. Mary River Project

The Mary River Project, owned by Nunavut Iron Ore, is a surface mine located in Nunavut. The mine produced an estimated 5.63 MTPA of iron ore in 2020. The mine will operate until 2052.

5. DSO Project NML

Owned by Tata Steel, the DSO Project NML is a surface mine located in Quebec. It produced an estimated 1.649 MTPA of iron ore in 2020.
