Biomechanically Designed Safety Footwear Reduces Workers Self-Rated Leg Fatigue
A four-week wear trial compared workers’ existing safety footwear to a biomechanically designed safety shoe (Uvex X-Flow) intended to reduce workplace lower-limb fatigue through rollover-based sole geometry, a flexible upper, and high-energy-return cushioning (Uvex i-PUREnrj: ~61% heel and 54% forefoot energy return). This study concludes that biomechanically harmonised design, combined with high-energy-return cushioning, can reduce perceived leg fatigue more than weight reduction alone, supporting the adoption of such footwear to help minimise workplace fatigue.
