McElroy, a leading designer and manufacturer of thermoplastic pipe-fusion equipment, has announced the latest generation of its DataLogger® tablet.

Designed specifically for the demanding conditions of job sites around the world, the DataLogger® 8 combines enhanced durability, improved visibility, and future-ready technology with the reliable data collection capabilities fusion professionals depend on every day.

For decades, McElroy’s DataLogger technology has helped contractors, utilities, and pipeline owners document critical fusion parameters and produce traceable records that support quality control, accountability, and regulatory compliance.

“The DataLogger has evolved into much more than a tablet attached to a fusion machine,” said Michael Pacheco, McElroy Innovation product manager. “Today it’s a critical part of the fusion process, collecting and managing data, connecting equipment, and helping crews document their work with confidence. The DataLogger 8 builds on that foundation with improvements that make it easier to use, more durable, and ready for the future.”

Built to withstand harsh construction environments, the DataLogger 8 features rugged, industrial-grade construction with IP68-rated protection against dust and water ingress and has been drop-tested to meet the demands of daily field use. Whether operating in extreme weather conditions or remote locations, the device is engineered to perform where fusion crews work.

One of the most noticeable upgrades is a larger, brighter display. The new 8in screen provides an additional viewing area compared to the previous 7in model, with additional modifications to significantly improve visibility in direct sunlight.

“Fusion crews often work outdoors in challenging conditions, and visibility matters,” Pacheco said. “The larger display and increased brightness make it easier to view job information, monitor fusion data, and work efficiently throughout the day.”

The redesigned tablet features a thinner overall profile and an all-new removable communications module. The module serves as the connection point for fusion pressure sensors and connected equipment while also functioning as an ergonomic hand grip for easier handling around the job site. Because the module is field-replaceable, service and maintenance can be completed quickly, without the need to replace the entire device.

In addition, the DataLogger 8 maintains compatibility with existing McElroy pressure sensor connections and communication systems, making transitions between equipment straightforward for operators working across mixed fleets.

Powering the device is an updated battery system that delivers up to 18h of runtime, helping crews complete full workdays without interruption. The tablet also retains hot-swap functionality, allowing operators to replace batteries without shutting down the device or losing critical work in progress.

Internally, the DataLogger 8 runs on Android™ 16 and features a new AI-ready processor designed to support future advancements in mobile computing and application performance.

“We wanted to ensure this platform is prepared for where technology is headed,” Pacheco said. “The processor delivers excellent performance today while giving us a foundation for future innovations, including on-device artificial intelligence capabilities.”

The tablet is also pre-certified for use on Verizon® and AT&T® mobile networks, simplifying cellular activation for contractors and utilities that rely on real-time connectivity and remote data access.

McElroy will initially offer the DataLogger 8 as a standalone package for legacy fusion equipment. Integration with connected McElroy machines will follow as platform updates are completed across product lines.

Expected shipments are scheduled to begin in November.
