The Government of Poland has scrapped its plan to shut down two PGG coal mines following opposition from trade unions. Already reeling under pressure from environmentalists and tepid demand, the country’s coal industry has been further hit by the Covid-19 crisis as several miners have been infected, which consequently led to closure of mining operations.

Sierra Metals has recommenced production at its Cusi silver mine in Mexico. It has undertaken a process at the mine to mitigate the Covid-19 risk to its employees at the site, as well as in the surrounding communities through a testing and quarantine methodology. The mine had been under care and maintenance since 1 April due to the government-mandated shutdown to contain the spread of Covid-19 in the country.

Fortuna Silver Mines has announced the resumption of production at the Caylloma mine in Arequipa province of Peru. On 6 July, the company voluntarily suspended operations at the mine. During this time, the company sanitised and disinfected the mine site. Mining and ore processing operations resumed at the mine this week , working at a daily capacity of 1,430t.
