Sandvik Mining launches cloud-based digital service My Sandvik Geo

The service provides mining operations with real-time access to subsurface conditions.

Sandvik Mining has launched My Sandvik Geo, a new cloud-based digital service designed to transform drilling data into practical geological and geotechnical insights.

This service offers mining operations real-time access to subsurface conditions, facilitating improved planning, better blasting results and increased productivity in surface top-hammer drilling activities.

My Sandvik Geo is designed to process raw drilling measurements including Measure While Drilling (MWD) data and drilling coordinates, and transform them into valuable insights.

These insights include information on rock strength, overburden, fractures, drilling accuracy, and comparisons between planned and actual execution.

The service categorises drilling data into four distinct stages. Initially, it captures raw signals from the rig, comprising the Data level.

These signals are then transformed into values such as rock hardness, discontinuities and overburden, forming the Information level.

Subsequently, the platform develops geological models within My Sandvik, establishing the Knowledge level. Finally, it provides actionable recommendations that inform strategic decisions and facilitate ongoing improvement at the Wisdom level.

My Sandvik Geo enhances blasting precision by accurately identifying rock strength and improves safety by exposing fractures and voids.

Additionally, it improves drilling quality by offering detailed accuracy insights and promotes efficient use of explosives and materials.

It also provides real-time visibility into any deviations from the blast plan, enabling teams to make quick adjustments and uphold high standards.

By integrating with Sandvik’s cloud-based digital ecosystem, the service can export data to mine-planning software such as Deswik.

Once activated, drilling data automatically flows to the cloud for straightforward visualisation.

Last month, Sandvik agreed to acquire ThoroughTec Simulation, a South African company specialising in equipment simulators and simulation-based training for the mining industry.
