Carroll Technologies Group plans to attend four mine safety events over the remainder of the year, starting with the North American Tunneling Conference in Washington DC, which started last weekend and will continue until this Wednesday.

North American Tunneling Conference

The conference brings together innovations, issues and trends affecting the underground construction and tunnelling industries. The three-day biennial event is taking place on 24-27 June at the Washington Marriott Wardman Park, where over 1,000 attendees will be able to participate in 20 technical sessions covering a range of aspects of tunnelling and underground construction. The main exhibition hall will also feature 175 booths and 140 exhibitors providing hands-on demonstrations of the latest tunnelling products.

COO at the Architect of the Capitol Christine Merdon will address attendees on Monday’s Monday’s keynote session, and Department of Energy deputy director Christopher Mossey will speak at a welcome luncheon on the same day. There will also be a range of networking opportunities, including an opening night reception and meals throughout the week.

Southeastern Mine Safety and Health Conference

This year’s event will be held at the Ross Bridge conference centre in Birmingham, Alabama, from 31 October to 2 November. This year’s theme is ‘developing a safety culture’, which will feature exhibitions from Motion Industries, G&R Mineral Services and the CCS Group. Speakers will include Mark Nutsch, who led the 12-man Green Beret team on a mission to Afghanistan that inspired the film ‘12 Strong’, and Pennsylvania personal injury attorney Joel Feldman.

The conference will also feature two awards, the 40-year Safer Miner Recognition prize and the Hero Award. The former is gifted to employees who have worked for at least 40 years in the south-eastern mining community without injury and who have upheld safety standards throughout their careers. A total of 26 miners received the 40-year Safe Miner Recognition award at last year’s conference. Last year’s Hero Award, given to a single mine worker for acts of bravery in protecting others, was given to New Line Transport driver Barry Williams for rescuing a woman trapped in her car following a traffic accident.

Mine rescue competitions

Carroll Technologies will also be present at two mine rescue events later this year. The National Mine Rescue Competition, in Lexington, Kentucky will be held from 23-26 July, and the Missouri Regional Mine Rescue Contest will be held in Rolla, Missouri from 1-4 October. Both competitions will highlight the latest equipment and techniques involved in mine rescue operations, and Carroll will attend to support both existing customers and those who could benefit from the company’s services in the future.

The company’s metal/non-metal mining and industrial sales accounts manager Josh Johnson said: “Carroll Technologies Group strives to continue to stay abreast on new products and current trends in the market by attending specific events as a vendor. This allows us the opportunity to showcase our company’s products and services and search for potential partnerships that fit our business model.

“We also attend mine rescue events to show support for our existing customers and their teams.”
