Australia-based Ausenco is set to provide engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) services for BHP Billiton Mitsubishi Alliance (BMA) Coal Mine’s long-term tailings facility located in Central Queensland.

Ausenco said it has been nominated as preferred contractor and will work with BMA to finalise the create phase EPC contract price expected to be no more than $33m.

Under the contract, the company will provide EPC services for a tailings and return 18km-long pipeline which runs between the mine coal handling processing plant and an in-pit storage facility, and is slated for completion by late 2016.

"We look forward to finalising the contract and working with BMA on a innovative pipeline solution that will facilitate ongoing operations at this mine."

Ausenco CEO Zimi Meka said: "We look forward to finalising the contract and working with BMA on a innovative pipeline solution that will facilitate ongoing operations at this mine.

"This award increases Ausenco’s work on hand (including preferred contractors) to over $300 million. Combined with other recent EPC and EPCM awards over the last few weeks improves Ausenco’s forward revenue visibility."

Separately, the company secured a C$12m ($9m) contract to provide engineering, procurement and construction management (EPCM) services for the refurbishment, upgrade and maintenance of a North African gold processing facility.
