Torque Limiters in Mining Applications

Torque-limiters are widely used in various mining applications around the globe – they protect drive trains from sudden overloads. During an overload, the source of the damage comes from the motor inertia. Drives can be shut down in the case of an overload, but there is still the rotating kinetic energy damage – e.g. in gearboxes when the motor inertia ‘bumps’ against a blocked crusher roll.
