Canada’s metals & mining industry sees a rise of 85.4% in deal activity in July 2020

Canada’s metals & mining industry saw a rise of 85.4% in overall deal activity during July 2020, when compared with the last 12-month average, according to GlobalData’s deals database.

A total of 76 deals worth $292.85m were announced in July 2020, compared to the 12-month average of 41 deals.

M&A was the leading category in the month in terms of volume with 69 deals which accounted for 90.8% of all deals.

In second place was private equity with five deals, followed by venture financing with two transactions, respectively accounting for 6.6% and 2.6% of overall deal activity in the country’s metals & mining industry during the month.

In terms of value of deals, M&A was the leading deal category in Canada’s metals & mining industry with total deals worth $252.27m, while private equity and venture financing deals totalled $40.15m and $0.43m, respectively.

Canada metals & mining industry deals in July 2020: Top deals

The top five metals & mining industry deals accounted for 86.6% of the overall value during July 2020.

The combined value of the top five metals & mining deals stood at $253.64m, against the overall value of $292.85m recorded for the month.

The top five metals & mining industry deals of July 2020 tracked by GlobalData were:

1) Auryn Resources’ $112.92m acquisition of Eastmain Resources

2) The $45.17m acquisition of MAS Gold by Southern Empire Resources

3) Atlantic Mining NS’s $44.71m acquisition of Moose River Resources

4) The $35.62m private equity deal with Karora Resources by Waterton Global Resource Management

5) Aftermath Silver’s asset transaction with SSR Mining for $15.23m.
