China accounts for 4% of global production, with the other largest producers being Indonesia (39%), the Philippines (12%), Russia (8%) and New Caledonia (7%). Exports of nickel from China increased by 72% to 7kt in 2022 over 2021, with the highest share being exported to Canada. China’s nickel exports are expected to drop at a CAGR of 3.43% between 2022 and 2026, to 6kt by 2026.
