In copper mining the material conveyed on belt conveyors often is being sprayed with sulphuric acid in order to extract the copper from the ore.

The ore is sharp edged, very abrasive and chemically aggressive.

Recently Phoenix Conveyor Belt Systems GmbH has put a new rubber cover compound on the market called MVF-A. The special features of this compound are its extreme high abrasion resistance combined with protection against acid.

In connection with the corrosion preventing full rubberization of the belt’s tensile member’s steel cords, and the active rip and puncture protection system Phoenotec, a much longer practical performance will be achieved compared to standard steel cord conveyor belts.

A first order covering several kilometers of this superior Phoenocord steel cable conveyor belt with MVF-A covers and Phoenotec in top and bottom covers has been shipped to a huge copper mine in Chile early 2002.
