3D Laser Mapping Appoints South American Distributor for SiteMonitor

3D Laser Mapping has appointed GEOCOM to act as Chilean representative for its high-tech laser scanning systems. With over 20 years’ experience in providing advanced solutions for field surveying, GEOCOM was the obvious partner for the region.

Chile is a vital area for mining and economic development and 3D Laser Mapping sees the region is a key market for its laser monitoring systems. The partnership with GEOCOM will build on 3D Laser Mapping’s position as an international specialist in the global development and deployment of laser scanning monitoring systems.

Mr Carlos Escudero, co-founder of Santiago-based GEOCOM, commented: “The addition of 3D Laser Mapping’s monitoring solutions to our product portfolio reinforces our position as the leading supplier of technology for surveying, geotechnical measurements and geodesy in Chile.”

He continued: “Solutions such as SiteMonitor will enhance the day-to-day efficiency and safety of mining operations across the region together with potential applications in the geological and environmental sectors.”

“This agreement will provide the perfect foundation from which to further expand the take up of laser monitoring solutions, such as SiteMonitor, which are already in use in diamond, gold, platinum and iron mines around the world as well as being deployed to monitor environmental risk such as volcanic activity and avalanche falls,” added Dr Graham Hunter, managing director of 3D Laser Mapping.

SiteMonitor is a safety monitoring system that automatically detects tiny movements in slopes and walls in open pit mines and other environments. Using advanced laser scanning technology, the modular SiteMonitor 3 system offers extensive user-defined alarm options with remote monitoring over the internet and automated warning e-mails.

SiteMonitor 3 can be used with virtually any terrestrial laser scanner giving flexibility in the range, rate and accuracy of scan measurements. It has been designed as a completely flexible laser scanning system that includes configurable software modules to meet individual user’s requirements, plus hardware accessories and a comprehensive service package including commissioning, training and remote support, making it a complete turnkey solution.

3D Laser Mapping and GEOCOM will both be exhibiting at the forthcoming Slope Stability conference, which takes place on 9 – 11 November 2009 at the Universidad de los Andes, Santiago, Chile.
