Sandvik is set to supply a 15-unit fleet of underground drills and loaders, along with parts and services, to Lucara Botswana for use at the Karowe diamond mine.
The order was booked in the second quarter of 2026, with equipment deliveries currently in progress and set to continue through the fourth quarter of 2026.

The agreement also includes a financing package arranged by Sandvik Financial Services (SFS) and backed by a guarantee from the Swedish Export Credit Agency (EKN).
Sandvik will supply five DD321 development drills, four Toro LH517i loaders, two Toro LH621i loaders, two DD422i development drills, one DS422i cable bolter, and one DU311 longhole drill.
The company will also provide aftermarket support, rock tools, and a range of digital services including My Sandvik and Remote Monitoring Service.
These services are aimed at helping maintain equipment availability and supporting productivity throughout the operational life of the fleet.
Sandvik Botswana territory manager Floors Foord said: “This order demonstrates the breadth of our offering and our ability to support customers in Botswana with an integrated solution that extends beyond the equipment.
“By bringing together expertise from across Sandvik, we can support Lucara throughout the equipment lifecycle while contributing to the long-term success of its underground operation.”
The financing arrangement, provided by SFS and supported by EKN’s export credit guarantee, is intended to facilitate Lucara’s investment in the ongoing transition of Karowe from open-pit to underground mining.
The Karowe Underground Project aims to extend the mine’s operational life beyond 2038.
The site has drawn attention for its recovery of large diamonds, including the discovery of its tenth diamond weighing over 1,000 carats earlier this year.
Last month, Sandvik secured an order from Mexican mining contractor Constructora Minera Villagómez (CoMinVi) for the supply of underground mining equipment.
