Canada-based STRACON Group has secured an integrated contract for engineering, construction, financing, and operations and maintenance (O&M) services pertaining to the Pérez Caldera Tailings Dam, part of the Los Bronces mining operation in Chile’s Lo Barnechea district.

Anglo American Sur (AAS), a 50.1% subsidiary of Anglo American, has awarded the contract, which will be executed by the STRACON Engineering business division.

The contract covers full-lifecycle delivery of infrastructure to condition, remove, and transport tailings material from the dam.

The project forms part of the Pérez Caldera Tailings Dam Removal and Water Resource Adaptation Project, which received environmental approval in April 2025.

The contract is in line with STRACON’s strategy of growing its portfolio of long-term, infrastructure-centric service agreements that integrate engineering, project delivery, financing, and operations.

STRACON Engineering will execute the work using its engineering resources, local project teams, and experienced operations staff.

STRACON stated that it would follow its set standards for health and safety, environmental management, and operational procedures throughout the contract’s duration.

STRACON CEO Steve Dixon said: “This award reflects continued confidence from a leading global mining company in STRACON’s ability to deliver complex infrastructure solutions across the full asset lifecycle.

“Our integrated engineering, EPC, financing and O&M platform enables us to support mining clients from project development through long-term operations, while maintaining a strong focus on safety, execution discipline and sustainable value creation.”

In September 2025, AAS and Codelco signed a binding agreement to execute a coordinated mine plan for their neighbouring Chilean copper assets, Los Bronces and Andina.

This deal is built on the memorandum of understanding (MOU) announced in February 2025 and has received unanimous approval from both companies’ boards of directors.
