PHOENIX Process Equipment - Coal Tailings Dewatering, Classifiers, Separators, Thickeners and Belt Presses for Sand Processing and Fines Recovery

PHOENIX Process Equipment was established in Pompano Beach, Florida in 1984. A US Department of Energy grant helped fund the development of the company's initial technology, the separation of clean coal from coal refuse. The development of this process technology fostered the company's development of its first commercially successful product, a high-capacity dewatering filter (belt filter press) capable of efficiently dewatering fine particle slurries. The success of PHOENIX's belt filter press dewatering technology established the foundation that has led to the company becoming an international leader in the supply of liquid / solid separation and residuals dewatering technology. With its initial customer base primarily being bituminous coal producers, the company relocated its operations to Louisville, Kentucky in 1986, in order to better service the industry.

Through internal development and a series of strategic partnering relationships and joint ventures, PHOENIX has established a broad base of products and liquid/solid separation process technologies targeted at residuals and sludge dewatering and thickening, water clarification and filtration, and solids classification and separation.

PHOENIX serves many markets including coal preparation plants, sand and gravel processing, municipal wastewater, pulp and paper, and various industrial market segments.

Aggregate processing systems

PHOENIX products include belt filter presses, gravity belt thickeners, high-rate circular thickeners, fluidized bed sand classifiers and separators, gravel jigs, hydrocyclone / screen separators, and polymer mixing and delivery systems.

Other services offered by PHOENIX include automation and controls, electrical systems design, facilities engineering, field support services, installation, operator training, replacement parts, and start-up services.

Additionally, PHOENIX is the exclusive US distributor for Diemme recessed chamber and membrane filter presses and piston-membrane pumps for dewatering thickener underflow.

PHOENIX offers state-of-the-art classifying and density separation technology for the production of construction materials.

Its unique, clog-free diffuser plate and upward current water design allows the HYDROSORT? to efficiently separate deleterious material from sand or to classify sand by particle size. Both the cut size and cut density can be varied over a broad range.

The HYDROSORT C/S provides multiple solids classifications and products from a single unit, and is the ultimate in classifying and separation technology.

The PHOENIX GS model jig uses air pulsing to separate gravel or stone from deleterious materials such as lignite or other lighter weight, undesirable materials.

Fines separation and recovery

The PHOENIX HG separator's flexible design allows efficient recovery and dewatering of fine slurries containing solids down to 38µm and below. Several hydrocyclone sizes are available. The HG's integral dewatering screen produces a conveyable, stackable product for sale, reuse, or easy disposal.

Thickeners and clarifiers

The PHOENIX HiFlo™ thickener combines water clarification and slurry thickening in one step, greatly reducing the volume reporting to a slurry pond by thickening slurries from 4%-10% solids by weight to 40%, or more. When the complete elimination of the slurry pond is desired, the thickener underflow is pumped to a PHOENIX dewatering press. This results in a solid-phase cake that is easy to convey, store, stack or handle.

The AltaFlo? ultra high-rate thickener is totally factory assembled for quick, cost-effective installation. Clarified overflow water is available for immediate reuse. Features include no moving parts, a smaller footprint, and a consistently thick underflow - resulting in reduced maintenance, less space required, and greatly reduced tailings storage capacity.

Belt filter presses

PHOENIX offers robust, rugged belt filter presses tailored to the requirements of each specific dewatering application. The range includes economical basic machines to a high-capacity, high-solid press with belt widths of up to 3m.

Design features include heavy, all-welded main frames; modular construction; continuous automatic operation; open design; corrosion resistant, epoxy over zinc coated frame; pneumatic belt tracking/tensioning; and extended gravity and wedge zones for maximum capacity per meter of belt width.

Filter presses

Additionally, PHOENIX is the exclusive US distributor for Diemme recessed chamber and membrane filter presses and piston-membrane pumps for dewatering thickener underflow. Established in 1923, Diemme has developed rugged, innovative separation and dewatering solutions that are applied in a diverse range of markets including mining and aggregate applications.

Through its emphasis on research and development, process evaluation, integrated design engineering, and project execution, Diemme has earned its global reputation as a committed partner in solving complex effluent treatment problems. Diemme's broad range of equipment models and sizes focuses on products customized for each process and application.
