Polish coal miner PGG has revamped its website, now offering coal to consumers for home delivery.

“Due to the epidemic crisis, the market for a lot of sectors has shown growing interest in online sales, ” PGG spokesman Tomasz Głogowski told PAP. “We suspect that in a few weeks, during sales season, the trend will also appear on the heating coal market.”

Customers pay online and can either have coal delivered, or they can collect their order from a company outpost in the town of Pszczyna in southern Poland. Currently, the system only accepts orders over 750kg.

Poland remains heavily reliant on coal for power generation, with the fuel used to produce 80% of the country’s power. Coal is also used in homes for heating, contributing to significant air pollution in Polish cities.
