Concept: Taiwan’s technological company Artery Technology has rolled out a wireless and low-power Bluetooth MCU (microcontroller) named AT32WB415 which is compliant with Bluetooth Low Energy specification 5.0 and TUV Rheinland certified. The Bluetooth MCU features a high-performance CPU, enhanced memory resources and communication interfaces, Bluetooth radio frequency (RF) transceiver, and baseband capability.

Nature of Disruption: Artery Technology claims that AT32WB415 Bluetooth MCU provides an all-in-one solution for the development of Bluetooth technology products. It is designed to consume low power for supporting sleep, deep sleep, and standby modes. The new device offers up to 97 dBm sensitivity in Bluetooth RX (Receiver) that can offer stable and reliable signals even in an adverse environment. AT32WB415 is based on the high-performance ARM Cortex-M4 core and can operate at a frequency of up to 150 MHz. It embeds high-speed memories and various peripherals including 12-bit 8-channel ADC (Analog to Digital Converter), two comparators, four USARTSs (Universal Synchronous Asynchronous Receiver Transmitters), SPI (Serial Peripheral Interface), I2C (Inter-Integrated Circuit),  advanced-control timer, and seven general-purpose timers. It can operate between temperature ranges of -40 to +105 degrees Celsius. The Bluetooth MCU is also equipped with the Security Library (sLib) which enables users to program any part of the embedded flash memory protected by such sLib mechanism.

Outlook: The demand for advanced applications including IoT devices is stressing the product design and development teams to keep the design as minimal as possible. The advanced applications are demanding smaller products with enhanced battery life. Artery Technology claims that AT32WB415 Bluetooth MCU has reduced PCB (printed circuit board) size and the optimized RF (radio frequency) layout that makes it suitable for various applications including consumer electronics, IoT, and smart homes. It boast to have achieved Bluetooth SIG (Special Interest Group) BQB (Bluetooth Qualification Body) certification. The product provides developers with different development tools for various applications including system development, mass production programming, and firmware updates.
