Park Village Auctions to handle Finsch Diamond Mine asset sale

The mine, previously operated by Petra Diamonds, is said to be one of South Africa’s largest diamond mining operations.

Park Village Auctions has been appointed as the disposal agent for the assets of the Finsch Diamond Mine in the Northern Cape of South Africa, following the adoption of a business rescue plan by creditors in August 2026.

The sale comes after business rescue practitioners determined that resuming mining operations at Finsch was not viable, with asset disposal selected as the route to recover maximum value for creditors.

The mine, previously operated by Petra Diamonds, is said to be one of the country’s largest diamond mining operations.

Its closure followed a company decision to cut costs and shift focus towards the higher-value Cullinan mine.

Petra Diamonds cited difficult market conditions, including a decline in prices for smaller diamonds, and the absence of higher-value stones at Finsch as key reasons behind the move.

The asset sale will cover a wide range of mining, processing, engineering and support equipment accumulated over years at the Lime Acres site.

The sale will include earthmoving and mining vehicles, a full process plant with systems for crushing and reduction, and a comprehensive conveyor set-up.

It also includes workshops, significant inventories of spare parts and supplies, electrical systems and a variety of specialised tools.

The underground assets consist of facilities for batching and crushing concrete, dewatering pumps, and a trackless fleet that comprises drill rigs, load-haul-dump machines and utility vehicles.

These will be made available through phased releases as cataloguing and asset recovery progress, using a mix of on-site, webcast and timed auctions, along with invitations for offers.

According to the business rescue plan, secured creditors have provided funding to continue minimal site operations including asset reclamation.

Proceeds from sales will be distributed according to the ranking of creditor claims, with secured creditors’ claims, including recent funding, ranking first.

A reduced workforce will handle the asset reclamation, and all employee claims will be processed in line with Section 189 of the South African Labour Relations Act.
