Volvo Construction Equipment (Volvo CE) has launched its new range of rigid haulers in order to address the changing requirements of the company’s mining and quarrying customers.
The new line of Volvo-branded haulers was unveiled at the company’s Motherwell facility in Scotland and includes the 45t R45D, 60t R60D, 72t R70D and the flagship 95t R100E.
The R100E unit has been developed by combining market and customer feedback with proven components, new technologies and an updated design concept.
Volvo has designed the haulers to help customers achieve production targets faster, while consuming less fuel in the process.
The company has also taken into consideration the operational costs and necessary safety measures involved in surface mining and quarrying operations.
Manungu Colliery site manager Sagrys De Villiers said: “The Volvo R100E is an impressive design that offers a good balance between productivity, fuel efficiency, comfort, ease of maintenance and safety.
“We are sure that this truck will be a strong competitor in the rigid truck market in the future.”
In addition, workshop manager Danie van Niekerk noted that the hauler is able to carry an extra bucket pass compared to other 100t trucks currently being used at the site.
Niekerk said: “This means extra productivity for the mine, which is very valuable.
“Speed and acceleration of the hauler on inclines compares favourably against competitor machines, even when fully loaded and carrying more material.”
Volvo’s E-Series R100E is intended to enable customers in the mining and quarrying sectors to move a greater amount of material more quickly.
The variety of improvements offered by the D-Series R45D, R60D and R70D rigid haulers include greater visibility and safety, as well as the addition of Volvo technical support and branding.
Volvo CE rigid haulers vice-president Paul Douglas said: “The R100E has been designed to meet customer demands for a rigid hauler that delivers high performance and productivity, low total cost of ownership, easy serviceability and good operator comfort.”
