Nokia has introduced a new AI platform, Cognitive Operations (CO), aimed at supporting industries where continuous field operations are critical, with an initial focus on mining, public safety and defence.
The company announced the commercial availability of CO, which integrates mission-critical communications, edge computing and operational AI in a consolidated, field-deployable system.

This platform is designed to provide real-time intelligence on sites and assets. It offers features such as AI assistance, 3D digital twin visualisations, video analytics, predictive maintenance and the ability to maintain hybrid network connectivity.
According to Nokia, this combination is intended to help reduce downtime and keep essential operations running in challenging environments.
For mining operators, CO brings together AI-enabled monitoring and resilient communications, which can be set up either on-premises or through cloud deployments via the Microsoft Azure Marketplace.
CO can be deployed on local IT infrastructure at customer sites.
Nokia stated that this flexibility allows for faster deployment, including in mining, which is among the three primary sectors targeted by the platform.
Central to the new system is the Cognitive Edge Node (CEN), a durable network and edge computing device.
The CEN incorporates multi-access networking and on-device, graphics processing unit-accelerated computing. It aims to extend AI-driven capabilities to vehicles and remote facilities operating in the field.
Nokia has also partnered with Rajant to integrate its Kinetic Mesh InstaMesh technology into the CEN, expanding the platform’s wireless access options.
