Hitachi Construction Machinery is planning to build a mining equipment factory in Japan.

The factory is part of the firms’ three-year $2.4bn expansion plan and will be built near an eastern port in Ibaraki.

Hitachi is currently conducting a study to determine the cost of building the factory, which is expected to commence production in 2013.

Hitachi Construction Machinery senior vice-president Shinichi Mihara said that the new plant is expected to increase the firm’s mining equipment sales to $2.8bn by March 2014.
