mining

One of the largest iron ore mines in Central Europe VA Erzberg GmbH has opted for the latest Hyster tyre handling truck at its iron ore mine in Austria.

This will be to help change the tyres on its fleet of heavy-duty mining trucks used to transport iron ore at the mine.

Every year about 7.2 million tonnes of rock containing ore is mined and transported from the mine.

The tyres of the large mining trucks have to be changed quickly and cost-effectively, whilst ensuring the maximum safety of the mechanic.

Hyster senior product manager for heavy-duty forklifts and container handlers, Norbert Brünell, noted that the challenge was to develop a single solution that could be used to repair and change the tyres, as well as to handle the heavy mining vehicle components, such as engines, gearboxes and axles.

The Hyster H16XM-6, which is equipped with an IMT TH15K160 tyre handling attachment and a nominal capacity of 6.804kg, was chosen for the iron ore mine.

The H16XM-6 with a TH15K160 truck can handle tyres of up to 33.00 R51 or 5.820kg at the centre of the clamped tyre and is ideal for servicing the fleet, which comprises 12 Komatsu HD HD 785-7 and 985-5 heavy-duty trucks, four Komatsu WA 800-3 wheel loaders and a Komatsu PC-1250 excavator.

The Hyster H16XM-6 without the TH15K160 has a nominal capacity of 16,000kg at 600mm load centre or 11,350kg at 1,200mm.

This truck is equipped with a 6.7l Cummins QSB6.7 diesel engine with load sensing hydraulics, which is demand sensitive, implying that only the amount of oil required for the application is pumped through the system at any given time.

This reduces waste and operating temperatures, and boosts fuel efficiency.

The truck has a durable driveline with a strong drive axle and advanced auto-shift transmission system that comes with a protective lock-out on forward-reverse shifting.

Hyster Big Trucks are designed to support the global mining industry. The vehicles range from H8XM-6 upto H30XMS-9 in combination with the new IMT tyre handling attachment ranges TH5K115 to TH36K164, and handle tyre weights of 2,495kg up to 16,330kg.
