The contract for Metso, worth approximately €10m ($11.65m), is recorded in the company’s Minerals segment orders for the third quarter of 2026 (Q3 2026).

The New Simberi Gold Project Expansion aims to shift the operation’s focus from processing oxide ore to fresh sulphide ore.

This upgrade is expected to enable a significant increase in mining rates and support the long-term growth of gold production.

According to feasibility studies, the site is targeting around 200,000 ounces (oz) of gold output each year, along with a large rise in material movement compared to current operations.

Metso will provide a range of technologies, including Vertimill regrind milling, Metso TankCell flotation circuits, and VPA Pressure filtration for concentrate dewatering.

The package also features a High Rate Thickener (HRT) with Reactorwell technology designed to improve flocculation and mixing.

The equipment is intended to help improve throughput, recovery rates, water efficiency and reliability in the site’s remote location.

Metso minerals Asia Pacific vice-president David Tulloch said: “The New Simberi Gold Project Expansion represents one of the most significant gold processing developments currently underway in the Pacific region.

“We are delighted to continue strengthening our relationship with Lingbao Gold, St Barbara and Pitch Black Group.

“Metso’s participation across the comminution, flotation and dewatering circuits demonstrates the value of our integrated flowsheet approach and our ability to support customers with energy-efficient, high-performance processing solutions throughout the plant lifecycle.”

This latest contract follows previous orders in the first half of 2026, when Metso was contracted to deliver a Nordberg HP200e cone crusher and two apron feeders for the project.

The technologies included in the new packages are aimed at supporting energy efficiency, water recovery, and overall process performance, with a focus on processing fresh sulphide ore and maximising gold recovery.
