The suspension came after an incident during construction work at a leach tank led to the death of an employee of a contractor.

Metals Exploration has launched an internal investigation into the circumstances of the incident and notified local authorities.

According to the company, its investigation is ongoing, and it has not disclosed any further details.

The company stated that it is not aware of any material impact on the La India project as a result of the incident.

Metals Exploration became the full owner of La India after acquiring Condor Gold in January 2025.

The company’s land position in Nicaragua extends to 1,222km², including several exploration targets beyond the main deposit.

Construction at La India began in May 2025 and has passed the halfway mark, with key areas such as process plant foundations and bulk earthworks progressing ahead of schedule. Major equipment procurement is also advanced.

Funding for construction is drawn from the company’s existing and future cash reserves from the Runruno operation.

Commissioning and initial gold production are scheduled for December 2026, with the project targeting average output of 145,000oz of gold per year over a mine life exceeding 12 years.

Last month, the company fully drew a $27m (£20.39m) equipment loan for its La India mine.
