Halo Minerals, via its wholly owned subsidiary Minera Playa Verde, has received a key mining permit from Chilean authorities for the Playa Verde copper and gold tailings project located at Chañaral beach.

The permit, issued under Article 17 No. 1 of the Chilean Mining Code, allows the company to conduct mining operations involving dredging of mineral-bearing materials, including within Chañaral’s urban area.

The Provincial Presidential Delegation of Chañaral granted the authorisation through Exempt Resolution No. 473.

This clearance enables the extraction and processing of historic tailings deposited at the beach site.

According to the approval details, the project will recover copper in the form of cathodes and concentrates after treatment at a metallurgical facility, followed by the return of processed material to the site once it has been conditioned.

As part of the regulatory process, the Regional Ministerial Secretariat for Housing and Urban Development of Atacama (MINVU) stated it had no objection to the permit for mining activities related to the Playa Verde project.

In addition, the resolution notes that the project received a favourable environmental assessment through a decision by the Committee of Ministers.

Halo Minerals indicated that the Article 17 No. 1 permit is a significant milestone for advancing the Playa Verde project towards a final investment decision (FID) and development.

The company also pointed out that other sector-specific permits remain necessary for full operation.

A mining easement application has already been submitted and is expected to be decided in the coming weeks, while a maritime concession application is ongoing.

Halo Minerals CEO Andrew Dennan said: “The granting of this permit represents another important milestone in the advancement of Playa Verde and continues the progress we are making across the Project’s permitting and development workstreams.

“Importantly, the permit authorises the relevant mining activities associated with dredging the historic mineralised material at Chañaral, including within the urban area, following confirmation from MINVU that it had no objections to the permit being granted.”
