Five largest nickel mines in South Africa in 2020

Here are the five largest nickel mines by production in South Africa, according to GlobalData’s mining database.

1. Rustenburg Complex

The Rustenburg Complex is a surface and underground mine located in North West. It is owned by Sibanye Stillwater and produced an estimated 15.6 Thousand tonnes of nickel in 2020. The mine will operate until 2035.

2. Mogalakwena Mine

Located in Limpopo, the Mogalakwena Mine is owned by Anglo American Plc. The surface mine produced an estimated 15.482 Thousand tonnes of nickel in 2020. The mine will operate until 2040.

3. Nkomati Mine

The Nkomati Mine is located in Mpumalanga . It is owned by African Rainbow Minerals and produced an estimated 10.638 Thousand tonnes of nickel in 2020.

4. Impala Mine

The Impala Mine, owned by Impala Platinum Holdings, is an underground mine located in North West. The mine produced an estimated 4.72 Thousand tonnes of nickel in 2020. The mine will operate until 2035.

5. Union Mine

Owned by Siyanda Resources, the Union Mine is an underground mine located in Limpopo. It produced an estimated 4.209 Thousand tonnes of nickel in 2020. The mine will operate until 2033.
