Five largest iron ore mines in Mexico in 2020

Here are the five largest iron ore mines by production in Mexico, according to GlobalData’s mining database.

1. Pena Colorada Mine

The Pena Colorada Mine is a surface mine located in Colima. It is owned by ArcelorMittal and produced an estimated 3.8 MTPA of iron ore in 2020. The mine will operate until 2038.

2. Hercules Mine

Located in Coahuila, the Hercules Mine is owned by Altos Hornos de Mexico. The surface and underground mine produced an estimated 2.541 MTPA of iron ore in 2020.

3. Las Truchas Mine

The Las Truchas Mine is located in Michoacan. It is owned by ArcelorMittal and produced an estimated 1.6 MTPA of iron ore in 2020.

4. Las Encinas Mines

The Las Encinas Mines, owned by Ternium, is a surface mine located in Michoacan. The mine produced an estimated 1.423 MTPA of iron ore in 2020. The mine will operate until 2025.

5. Prometeo Mine

Owned by Altos Hornos de Mexico, the Prometeo Mine is an underground mine located in Coahuila. It produced an estimated 0.259 MTPA of iron ore in 2020.
