Five largest copper mines in Mexico in 2020

Here are the five largest copper mines by production in Mexico, according to GlobalData’s mining database.

1. Buenavista del Cobre Mine

The Buenavista del Cobre Mine is a surface mine located in Sonora. It is owned by Grupo Mexico and produced an estimated 438.36 Thousand tonnes of copper in 2020.

2. La Caridad Mine

Located in Sonora, the La Caridad Mine is owned by Grupo Mexico. The surface mine produced an estimated 107.221 Thousand tonnes of copper in 2020.

3. Tayahua Mine

The Tayahua Mine is located in Zacatecas. It is owned by Minera Frisco and produced an estimated 23.063 Thousand tonnes of copper in 2020.

4. Piedras Verdes Mine

The Piedras Verdes Mine, owned by Invecture Group, is a surface mine located in Sonora. The mine produced an estimated 22.761 Thousand tonnes of copper in 2020. The mine will operate until 2031.

5. Milpillas Copper Mine

Owned by Industrias Penoles, the Milpillas Copper Mine is an underground mine located in Sonora. It produced an estimated 19.706 Thousand tonnes of copper in 2020. The mine will operate until 2027.
