Five largest copper mines in Chile in 2020

Here are the five largest copper mines by production in Chile, according to GlobalData’s mining database.

1. Escondida Mine

The Escondida Mine is a surface mine located in Antofagasta. It is owned by BHP and produced an estimated 1,126 Thousand tonnes of copper in 2020. The mine will operate until 2078.

2. Collahuasi Mine

Located in Tarapaca, the Collahuasi Mine is owned by Anglo American Plc. The surface mine produced an estimated 629.1 Thousand tonnes of copper in 2020. The mine will operate until 2088.

3. El Teniente Mine

The El Teniente Mine is located in Cachapoal. It is owned by Corporacion Nacional del Cobre de Chile and produced an estimated 443.22 Thousand tonnes of copper in 2020.

4. Chuquicamata Mine

The Chuquicamata Mine, owned by Corporacion Nacional del Cobre de Chile, is an underground mine located in Antofagasta. The mine produced an estimated 400.72 Thousand tonnes of copper in 2020. The mine will operate until 2058.

5. Los Pelambres Mine

Owned by Antofagasta Plc, the Los Pelambres Mine is a surface mine located in Elqui. It produced an estimated 359.6 Thousand tonnes of copper in 2020. The mine will operate until 2034.
