The US’s mining industry registered an 11.9% drop in IT hiring activity in December 2021 when compared with the previous month, according to GlobalData’s Job Analytics database.

The industry’s overall hiring is decreased by 4.84% in December 2021 when compared with November 2021.

Out of the mining industry’s total hiring activity, IT jobs claimed a 3.12% share in December 2021, recording a decrease of 0.07% over the last three-month average share.

Top five job classifications in the US’s mining industry’s IT recruitment activity in December 2021

Out of the total job titles, the top five roles commanded a 99.02% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of the US’s mining industry in December 2021.

1) Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers recorded a share of 46.08% in December 2021, registering a 38.96% decline over the previous month.

2) Database and Network Administrators and Architects claimed a 25.49% share, an increase of 18.18% over the previous month.

3) Computer and Information Analysts held a share of 9.8%, registering a 16.67% decline from November 2021.

4) Miscellaneous Computer Occupations captured a share of 8.82%, down 70.97% over the previous month.

Top five mining companies in the US’s IT recruitment activity in December 2021

The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, have accounted for a combined average decline of 3.51% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of the US’s mining industry during December 2021 over November 2021.

Freeport-McMoRan posted 22 IT jobs in December 2021 and registered a rise of 175% over the previous month, followed by Nucor with 9 jobs and a 73.53% drop. RTI International Metals with 8 IT jobs and ThyssenKrupp with 8 jobs, recorded a 20% decline and a 700% growth, respectively, while AngloGold Ashanti recorded an increase of 100% with 8 job postings during December 2021.

Junior Level job postings dominate in December 2021

Junior Level jobs held a share of 50.98%, down by 35.8% from November 2021. Mid Level positions with a 28.43% share, registered a decline of 39.58% compared with the previous month.

In the third place was Entry Level job ads with a 20.59% share, down 27.59% over November 2021.
