North America witnessed a 9.6% rise in IT hiring activity in the mining industry in September 2021 when compared with the previous month, according to GlobalData’s Job Analytics dashboard.

September 2021 has seen an increase of 5.61% in the overall hiring activity when compared with August 2021.

IT jobs accounted for a 3.84% share in the industry’s total hiring activity in September 2021, registering an increase of 0.07% over the last three-month average share.

Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers Occupations leads by classification in September 2021

Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers Occupations emerged as the leading IT occupation in North America with a share of 34.88% in September 2021, an 18.18% drop over the previous month. Database and Network Administrators and Architects came in next, claiming a share of 24.81% in September 2021, marking a 39.13% month-on-month increase. In the third place was Miscellaneous Computer Occupations with a share of 17.05% in September 2021, a 37.5% rise from August 2021.

Computer Support Specialists registered a share of 12.4% in September 2021, a 23.08% rise over the previous month.

Top five mining companies in North America’s IT recruitment activity in September 2021

The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, accounted for a combined average growth of 40.48% in the overall IT recruitment activity of North America’s mining industry during September 2021 over previous month.

Nucor posted 26 IT jobs in September 2021 and registered an increase of 100% over the previous month, followed by RTI International Metals with 10 jobs and a 41.18% drop. Rio Tinto with 9 IT jobs and Mueller Industries with 7 jobs, recorded a 350% rise and a 40% rise, respectively, while Newcrest Mining recorded a 40% increase with 7 job postings during September 2021.

Country-wise composition of IT hiring in North America’s mining industry

The US commanded a leading presence in the region’s mining industry IT hiring activity with an 82.95% share in September 2021, a 3.6% decrease over August 2021. Canada featured next with a 17.05% share, up 69.23% over the previous month.

Junior Level job postings dominate in September 2021

Junior Level jobs held a share of 54.26%, up by 14.75% from August 2021. Mid Level positions with a 24.03% share, registered a decline of 31.11% compared with the previous month.

In the third place was Entry Level job ads with a 21.71% share, up 55.56% over August 2021.
