North America witnessed a 4.7% rise in IT hiring activity in the mining industry in May 2022 when compared with the previous month, according to GlobalData’s Job Analytics dashboard.
May 2022 has seen an increase of 0.84% in the overall hiring activity when compared with April 2022.
IT jobs accounted for a 2.23% share in the industry’s total hiring activity in May 2022, registering an increase of 0.21% over the last three-month average share.
Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers Occupations leads by classification in May 2022
Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers Occupations emerged as the leading IT occupation in North America with a share of 40% in May 2022, a 41.94% rise over the previous month. Database and Network Administrators and Architects came in next, claiming a share of 23.64% in May 2022, marking a 3.7% month-on-month decline. In the third place was Miscellaneous Computer Occupations with a share of 19.09% in May 2022, a 10.53% rise from April 2022.
Computer and Information Analysts registered a share of 9.09% in May 2022, a 41.18% decline over the previous month.
Top five mining companies in North America’s IT recruitment activity in May 2022
The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, accounted for a combined average growth of 44.44% in the overall IT recruitment activity of North America’s mining industry during May 2022 over previous month.
Teck Resources posted 21 IT jobs in May 2022 and registered an increase of 162.5% over the previous month, followed by Teck Coal with 15 jobs and a 7.14% growth. RTI International Metals with 11 IT jobs and Freeport-McMoRan with 11 jobs, recorded an 8.33% drop and a 37.5% rise, respectively, while ArcelorMittal recorded a 133.33% increase with 7 job postings during May 2022.
Country-wise composition of IT hiring in North America’s mining industry
The US commanded a leading presence in the region’s mining industry IT hiring activity with a 51.82% share in May 2022, a 22.97% decrease over April 2022. Canada featured next with a 46.36% share, up 24.39% over the previous month. France recorded a 0.91% share, a flat growth compared with April 2022.
Junior Level job postings dominate in May 2022
Junior Level jobs held a share of 69.09%, up by 18.75% from April 2022. Entry Level positions with a 20% share, registered a growth of 4.76% compared with the previous month.
In the third place was Mid Level job ads with a 10.91% share, down 60% over April 2022.
