North America witnessed a 6.4% drop in IT hiring activity in the mining industry in September 2022 when compared with the previous month, according to GlobalData’s Job Analytics dashboard.

September 2022 has seen an increase of 1.65% in the overall hiring activity when compared with August 2022.

IT jobs accounted for a 3.48% share in the industry’s total hiring activity in September 2022, registering a decrease of 0.19% over the last three-month average share.

Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers Occupations leads by classification in September 2022

Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers Occupations emerged as the leading IT occupation in North America with a share of 37.93% in September 2022, a 21.43% drop over the previous month. Database and Network Administrators and Architects came in next, claiming a share of 25% in September 2022, marking a 42% month-on-month decline. In the third place was Computer and Information Analysts with a share of 13.79% in September 2022, a 23.81% drop from August 2022.

Computer Support Specialists registered a share of 10.34% in September 2022, a flat growth over the previous month.

Top five mining companies in North America’s IT recruitment activity in September 2022

The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, accounted for a combined average growth of 9.76% in the overall IT recruitment activity of North America’s mining industry during September 2022 over previous month.

Teck Resources posted 11 IT jobs in September 2022 and registered an increase of 83.33% over the previous month, followed by RTI International Metals with 9 jobs and a 10% drop. Teck Coal with 9 IT jobs and Aditya Birla Management Corp with 9 jobs, recorded a flat growth and a 25% drop, respectively, while ArcelorMittal recorded a 75% increase with 7 job postings during September 2022.

Country-wise composition of IT hiring in North America’s mining industry

The US commanded a leading presence in the region’s mining industry IT hiring activity with a 70.69% share in September 2022, a 27.43% decrease over August 2022. Canada featured next with a 27.59% share, down 31.91% over the previous month. France recorded a 1.72% share, a growth of 100% compared with August 2022.

Junior Level job postings dominate in September 2022

Junior Level jobs held a share of 54.31%, down by 33.68% from August 2022. Entry Level positions with a 23.28% share, registered a growth of 12.5% compared with the previous month.

In the third place was Mid Level job ads with a 22.41% share, down 35% over August 2022.
