Europe’s mining industry IT hiring activity drops 20.3% in March 2022

Europe witnessed a 20.3% drop in IT hiring activity in the mining industry in March 2022 when compared with the previous month, according to GlobalData’s Job Analytics dashboard.

March 2022 has seen a decrease of 1.05% in the overall hiring activity when compared with February 2022.

IT jobs accounted for a 4.25% share in the industry’s total hiring activity in March 2022, registering a decrease of 1.27% over the last three-month average share.

Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers Occupations leads by classification in March 2022

Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers Occupations emerged as the leading IT occupation in Europe with a share of 51.39% in March 2022, a 52.56% drop over the previous month. Database and Network Administrators and Architects came in next, claiming a share of 23.61% in March 2022, marking a 15% month-on-month decline. In the third place was Computer Support Specialists with a share of 12.5% in March 2022, a 47.06% drop from February 2022.

Miscellaneous Computer Occupations registered a share of 9.72% in March 2022, a 61.11% decline over the previous month.

Top five mining companies in Europe’s IT recruitment activity in March 2022

The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, accounted for a combined average growth of 21.57% in the overall IT recruitment activity of Europe’s mining industry during March 2022 over previous month.

ThyssenKrupp posted 27 IT jobs in March 2022 and registered an increase of 92.86% over the previous month, followed by Voestalpine with 10 jobs and a 66.67% growth. Heraeus with 9 IT jobs and Rio Tinto with 9 jobs, recorded a 50% rise and a 50% rise, respectively, while Anglo American recorded a 63.16% decline with 7 job postings during March 2022.

Country-wise composition of IT hiring in Europe’s mining industry

Germany commanded a leading presence in the region’s mining industry IT hiring activity with a 34.72% share in March 2022, a 3.85% decrease over February 2022. The UK featured next with a 23.61% share, down 29.17% over the previous month. Austria recorded a 13.89% share, a growth of 66.67% compared with February 2022.

Junior Level job postings dominate in March 2022

Junior Level jobs held a share of 66.67%, down by 49.47% from February 2022. Mid Level positions with a 16.67% share, registered a decline of 62.5% compared with the previous month.

In the third place was Entry Level job ads with a 16.67% share, down 50% over February 2022.
