Canada’s mining industry IT recruitment activity drops 19.2% in December 2021

Canada’s mining industry registered a 19.2% drop in IT hiring activity in December 2021 when compared with the previous month, according to GlobalData’s Job Analytics database.

The industry’s overall hiring is decreased by 7.6% in December 2021 when compared with November 2021.

Out of the mining industry’s total hiring activity, IT jobs claimed a 4.14% share in December 2021, recording a decrease of 1.04% over the last three-month average share.

Top five job classifications in Canada’s mining industry’s IT recruitment activity in December 2021

Out of the total job titles, the top five roles commanded a 100% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of Canada’s mining industry in December 2021.

1) Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers recorded a share of 46.67% in December 2021, registering a 30% decline over the previous month.

2) Miscellaneous Computer Occupations claimed a 20% share, a decrease of 62.5% over the previous month.

3) Computer Support Specialists held a share of 20%, registering a 200% rise from November 2021.

4) Computer and Information Analysts captured a share of 13.33%, down 50% over the previous month.

Top five mining companies in Canada’s IT recruitment activity in December 2021

The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, have accounted for a combined average growth of 30% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of Canada’s mining industry during December 2021 over November 2021.

Teck Resources posted 6 IT jobs in December 2021 and registered a rise of 100% over the previous month, followed by Kinross Gold with 3 jobs and a flat growth. Teck Coal with 2 IT jobs and EVRAZ North America with 1 jobs, recorded a 50% decline and a flat growth, respectively, while Iamgold recorded a flat growth with 1 job postings during December 2021.

Junior Level job postings dominate in December 2021

Junior Level jobs held a share of 53.33%, down by 52.94% from November 2021. Entry Level positions with a 26.67% share, registered an increase of 33.33% compared with the previous month.

In the third place was Mid Level job ads with a 20% share, down 57.14% over November 2021.
