Australia’s mining industry registered a 12.5% rise in IT hiring activity in February 2022 when compared with the previous month, according to GlobalData’s Job Analytics database.

The industry’s overall hiring is decreased by 4.02% in February 2022 when compared with January 2022.

Out of the mining industry’s total hiring activity, IT jobs claimed a 3.09% share in February 2022, recording an increase of 0.14% over the last three-month average share.

Top five job classifications in Australia’s mining industry’s IT recruitment activity in February 2022

Out of the total job titles, the top five roles commanded a 96.77% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of Australia’s mining industry in February 2022.

1) Database and Network Administrators and Architects recorded a share of 30.65% in February 2022, registering an 11.76% growth over the previous month.

2) Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers claimed a 30.65% share, an increase of 26.67% over the previous month.

3) Computer Support Specialists held a share of 16.13%, registering a 42.86% rise from January 2022.

4) Miscellaneous Computer Occupations captured a share of 12.9%, down 11.11% over the previous month.

Top five mining companies in Australia’s IT recruitment activity in February 2022

The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, have accounted for a combined average growth of 40% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of Australia’s mining industry during February 2022 over January 2022.

Fortescue Metals Group posted 8 IT jobs in February 2022 and registered a rise of 100% over the previous month, followed by Gold Fields with 8 jobs and a 33.33% growth. Newcrest Mining with 7 IT jobs and Evolution Mining with 6 jobs, recorded a 12.5% decline and a 100% growth, respectively, while BHP recorded an increase of 50% with 6 job postings during February 2022.

Junior Level job postings dominate in February 2022

Junior Level jobs held a share of 75.81%, up by 34.29% from January 2022. Mid Level positions with a 14.52% share, registered a decline of 25% compared with the previous month.

In the third place was Entry Level job ads with a 9.68% share, up 100% over January 2022.
