Asia-Pacific witnessed a 9.2% drop in IT hiring activity in the mining industry in January 2022 when compared with the previous month, according to GlobalData’s Job Analytics dashboard.

January 2022 has seen an increase of 3.3% in the overall hiring activity when compared with December 2022.

IT jobs accounted for a 4.18% share in the industry’s total hiring activity in January 2022, registering a decrease of 0.42% over the last three-month average share.

 

Database and Network Administrators and Architects Occupations leads by classification in January 2022

Database and Network Administrators and Architects Occupations emerged as the leading IT occupation in Asia-Pacific with a share of 30.38% in January 2022, a 9.09% rise over the previous month. Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers came in next, claiming a share of 30.38% in January 2022, marking a 14.29% month-on-month increase. In the third place was Miscellaneous Computer Occupations with a share of 27.85% in January 2022, an 8.33% drop from December 2022.

Top five mining companies in Asia-Pacific’s IT recruitment activity in January 2022

The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, accounted for a combined average growth of 48% in the overall IT recruitment activity of Asia-Pacific’s mining industry during January 2022 over previous month.

Anglo American posted 15 IT jobs in January 2022 and registered an increase of 87.5% over the previous month, followed by Newcrest Mining with 8 jobs and a 60% growth. Gold Fields with 6 IT jobs and South32 with 4 jobs, recorded a flat growth and a flat growth, respectively, while BHP recorded a 66.67% decline with 4 job postings during January 2022.

Country-wise composition of IT hiring in Asia-Pacific’s mining industry

Australia commanded a leading presence in the region’s mining industry IT hiring activity with a 62.03% share in January 2022, a 20.97% decrease over December 2022. Singapore featured next with a 15.19% share, up 71.43% over the previous month. India recorded a 12.66% share, a growth of 25% compared with December 2022.

Junior Level job postings dominate in January 2022

Junior Level jobs held a share of 72.15%, up by 1.79% from December 2022. Mid Level positions with a 21.52% share, registered a decline of 5.56% compared with the previous month.

In the third place was Entry Level job ads with 5.06% share, down 42.86% over December 2022, while Senior postings accounted for 1.27%, recording a month-on-month flat growth.
