Canada held a 16.7% share of the global metals & mining industry M&A deal value that totalled $6.28bn in Q2 2019.
In terms of deal activity, Canada recorded 89 deals during Q2 2019, marking a drop of 24.6% over the previous quarter and a drop of 12.8% over the last four-quarter average.

The top five metals & mining industry M&A deals accounted for 81.3% of the overall value during Q2 2019.
The combined value of the top five metals & mining industry M&A deals stood at $851.66m, against the overall value of $1.05bn recorded for the quarter. The top announced metals & mining industry M&A deal tracked by GlobalData in Q2 2019 was St. Barbara’s $596.22m acquisition of Atlantic Gold.
In second place was the $156.69m stake acquisition of Quebec Iron Ore by Champion Iron and in third place was Discovery Metals’ $49.43m acquisition of Levon Resources.
The $27.31m acquisition of Alexandria Minerals by Chantrell Ventures and Compania Minera Autlan SAB de CV’s acquisition of ECU Silver Mining for $22m held fourth and fifth positions, respectively.
