Mexico accounts for 4% of global production, with the other largest producers being Chile (25%), Peru (11%), China (9%) and the Democratic Republic of the Congo (9%). Exports of copper from Mexico increased by 21% to 1,878kt in 2022 over 2021, with the highest share being exported to China. Mexico’s copper exports are expected to grow at a CAGR of 4% between 2022 and 2026, to 2,169kt by 2026.
Leading producers of copper in Mexico are Grupo Mexico, Minera Frisco and Industrias Penoles. Grupo Mexico's output was 498.78kt in 2021, down by 4% on 2020. Minera Frisco produced 26.01kt, a decrease of 0.88%, and output from Industrias Penoles was 14.35kt, a decrease of 33% on the previous year.
