The US mining industry registered a 0.4% rise in IT hiring activity in June 2021 compared with the previous month, according to GlobalData’s Job Analytics index.

The industry’s overall hiring decreased by 2.27% in June 2021 compared with May 2021.

Out of the mining industry’s total hiring activity, IT jobs claimed a 3.72% share in June 2021, recording an increase of 0.36% over the last three-month average share.

Top five job classifications in the US mining industry’s IT recruitment activity in June 2021

Out of the total job titles, the top five roles commanded a 97.56% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of the US mining industry in June 2021.

1) Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers recorded a share of 40.24% in June 2021, a 35.29% drop over the previous month.

2) Database and Network Administrators and Architects claimed a 19.51% share, an increase of 6.67% over the previous month.

3) Computer and Information Analysts held a share of 18.29%, registering a 15.38% rise from May 2021.

4) Computer Support Specialists captured a share of 12.2%, up 900% over the previous month.

Top five mining companies in the US IT recruitment activity in June 2021

The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, have accounted for a combined average growth of 16.13% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of the US mining industry during June 2021 over May 2021.

Freeport-McMoRan posted 9 IT jobs in June 2021 and registered a drop of 30.77% over the previous month, followed by AngloGold Ashanti with 8 jobs and a flat growth. Ryerson with 7 IT jobs and Aditya Birla Management Corp with 6 jobs, recorded a 133.33% growth and a 100% increase, respectively, while Freeport-McMoRan recorded a 50% decline with 6 job postings during June 2021.

Junior Level job postings dominate in June 2021

Junior Level jobs held a share of 48.78%, down by 34.43% from May 2021. Mid Level positions with a 42.68% share, a growth of 84.21% compared with the previous month.

In the third place was Entry Level job ads with 7.32% share, down 50% over May 2021, while Senior postings accounted for 1.22%, recording a month-on-month an flat growth.
