Notably, Architecture and Engineering Occupations jobs accounted for an 11% share of the global mining industry’s environmental sustainability-related total new job postings in Q2 2024, down 7% over the prior quarter.

Architecture and Engineering Occupations drive environmental sustainability-related hiring activity

Architecture and Engineering Occupations, with a share of 11%, emerged as the top environmental sustainability-related job roles within the mining industry in Q2 2024, with new job postings drop by 7% quarter-on-quarter. Management Occupations came in second with a share of 9% in Q2 2024, with new job postings dropping by 3% over the previous quarter.

The other prominent environmental sustainability roles include Installation, Maintenance, and Repair Occupations with an 8% share in Q2 2024, Production Occupations with a 7% share of new job postings.

Top five companies in mining industry accounted for 27% of hiring activity

The top companies, in terms of number of new job postings tracked by GlobalData, as of Q2 2024 were Cameco, Atlas Copco, Caterpillar, Glencore, and Eaton. Together they accounted for a combined share of 27% of all environmental sustainability-related new jobs in the mining industry.

Cameco posted 1,252 environmental sustainability-related new jobs in Q2 2024, Atlas Copco 1,035 jobs, Caterpillar 848 jobs, Glencore 585 jobs, and Eaton 581 jobs, according to GlobalData’s Job Analytics.

Hiring activity was driven by the US with a 35.99% share of total new job postings, Q2 2024

The largest share of environmental sustainability-related new job postings in the mining industry in Q2 2024 was in the US with 35.99% followed by Canada (19.49%) and Australia (13.14%). The share represented by the US was 0 percentage points higher than the 35.67% share it accounted for in Q1 2024.
