Nerospec SK Demonstrates Autonomous Vehicle Passing to Improve Underground Mining Productivity

Nerospec SK has successfully demonstrated multiple autonomous vehicles safely passing each other
within a controlled underground traffic management scenario, marking another step forward in advancing fleetwide mining automation.

Completed in 2025, the demonstration showcased coordinated autonomous vehicle interactions
designed to improve underground traffic flow while maintaining safe operations in shared mining
environments. By enabling autonomous vehicles to navigate and pass each other safely, the project
helped reduce operational delays and improve overall productivity.

The achievement reflects the growing role of traffic management and coordinated machine interaction
in underground autonomous mining operations, where mixed traffic conditions and constrained tunnel
environments remain key operational challenges. The ability for autonomous vehicles to safely interact
underground is an important capability for scalable fleetwide automation strategies.

The project aligns with Nerospec SK’s broader approach to OEM-agnostic retrofit automation, supporting underground operations through technologies designed to improve both safety and
operational efficiency. According to the company, automation can help increase equipment utilisation,
reduce repetitive machine tasks, and support more productive mining operations.
